One might wonder how in the world two people like us could end up as sheep ranchers. If you would have told us years ago that we would not only own sheep but enjoy the many aspects of sheep ranching, we would have laughed in disbelief. Now, after many years of watching our sheep graze, play or sleep, I have a different perspective. There is a calm that comes from viewing our grazers. Sheep ranching gives us something to keep busy on the weekends. It teaches us how to work. It allows us to share the ups and downs that comes with owning animals. Owning and growing our little flock has provided a way to teach our child life-lessons that he would not experience otherwise. And lastly, sheep ranching has opened doors to conversations that give interest and entertainment to not only our selves but those we come into contact with. So, what started as borrowed sheep to mow a pasture has now become a beloved past-time. We love our sheep. We had never thought we would end up animal people but here we are owners of a rare breed of livestock. It’s fun. Challenging at times, but totally worth it.
